    Appointed Time and GIZ donate equipment worth €27,000 to Pentecost Hospital

    Appointed Time, a subsidiary of the Jospong Group of Companies and The German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), have donated laboratory equipment worth over €27,000 (¢317,000) to the Pentecost Hospital at Madina in the Greater Accra Region.

    The donation was to fulfil a request by the management of the hospital to meet the demand of services from growing number of patients who visit the facility daily.

    Presenting the equipment to the hospital on behalf of GIZ and Jospong Group, the Chief Corporate Communication Officer at Jospong Group of Companies, Sophia Kudjordji, said the donation was to help management address the pressure on the facility.

    Madam Kudjordji said some philanthropists personally brought 20 thermometers to the Executive Chairman of Jospong Group, Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyapong, which he added to the other items presented.

    “This afternoon, we are here with our colleagues from GIZ to do this presentation and we hope this will help management in taking care of their portion of the numerous challenges many hospitals are facing because of lack of resources,” Madam Kudjordji stated.

    “We believe this our widow’s mite will help solve some of your challenges,” she added.

    Some of the equipment donated are ph meter, urine analyzer, water bath, water distiller, vein finder, Coombs machine and microscope-eyepieces.

    The rest are centrifuge, roller hematology 5-part, micropipette and glassware kits.

    Receiving the items on behalf of the facility, its Medical Director, Apostle Dr. Edward Arko Kwarteng, said the equipment was going to complement management effort in handling basic laboratory stuff.

    “We are happy to receive these items and assure you and GIZ that management are going to put them to the best of use.

    “We also trust that there will be post-donation maintenance relationship, including the supply of reagents so that these machines can enjoy their life span and serve the community,” Dr. Kwarteng stated.

    On behalf of the management and the board of the hospital, Apostle Dr. Kwarteng thanked GIZ and the Jospong Group for the gift and asked for future collaboration.

    Present at the ceremony was Pastor Daniel Danso, Chaplain of the Group, Thomas Korley, Head of Zoomlion foundation and other executives of the Jospong Group.

    Before the donation to the Pentecost Hospital, GIZ and the Jospong Group had done similar gesture in Yilo Krobo District in the Eastern Region, with both donations costing €70,000, equivalent to ¢860,116.99.

    In pursuit of its mission to enhance the proper disposal of waste, the E&S group, operating under the renowned Jospong Group of Companies in Africa, has completed the construction and inauguration of an ultra-modern medical waste treatment plant in Adegya, Ashanti region. This milestone marks the first-ever facility of its kind in the area.

    At the facility’s commissioning, Hon. Mahama Asei Seini, the Deputy Minister of Health, emphasized that Ghana’s commitment to safeguarding public health, preserving the environment, and promoting sustainable development is evident through the establishment of this facility.

    Emphasizing the importance of proper medical waste management, Hon. Mahama Asei Seini highlighted that medical waste contains potentially infectious and hazardous materials, posing significant risks to human health and the ecosystem when not handled appropriately.

    He stressed the necessity of adopting responsible and efficient measures to curb disease transmission, safeguard healthcare workers, and reduce environmental impacts.

    Furthermore, he mentioned that the facility would cater to all healthcare establishments in the region and neighboring towns. With a daily waste treatment capacity of 10,000kg (10 tonnes), the facility is set to create more than 200 direct and indirect job opportunities.

    Haida Said, the Executive Director of Processing Cluster E&S Group, emphasised that the pandemic brought into focus the crucial importance of handling medical waste with caution to prevent the spread of infectious diseases within the country. He extended his gratitude to President Nana Addo for fostering an enabling environment that allows the private sector to contribute effectively to this vital cause.

    Hiahene Prof. Oheneba Boakye Adjei, representing Otumfou Osei Tutu, expressed admiration for the partnership between the Government of Ghana, Ecosteryl of Belgium, and the Jospong Group, which successfully brought the project to life.

    H.E. Harriet Sena Siaw-Boateng, the Ghana ambassador to Belgium, viewed the facility as a significant milestone, underscoring Ghana’s dedication to achieving Sustainable Development Goals SDGs. 3 and 12.

    The Kumasi Medical Waste Treatment facility is part of a broader initiative undertaken by the Jospong Group of companies in collaboration with the Ghanaian government. Their joint effort aims to establish 14 centralized medical waste treatment facilities throughout the country

    The primary purpose of the Kumasi Medical waste treatment facility is to collect and treat hazardous healthcare waste components, including used syringes, blood-stained materials, pathological waste, COVID-19 waste, and waste from vaccination exercises. It serves all healthcare facilities within the region and its surrounding areas. The facility is equipped with two state-of-the-art Microwave Treatment Equipment that have a daily capacity to handle an average of 10,000kg (10 tonnes) of hazardous waste. This equipment not only effectively treats the waste but also recycles it, adding value and reducing the amount of waste destined for landfills.

    The non-incineration technique employed by the equipment ensures there are no atmospheric pollutants released, promoting environmental health and safety.

    In addition to the treatment equipment, the facility features a Coldroom for waste storage and specialized waste trucks for transporting medical waste from various healthcare facilities to the treatment site.

    The facility also aligns with Ghana’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, specifically contributing to the goals related to environmental sustainability, health and decent work, and economic growth.

    Overall, the facility plays a crucial role in addressing the proper management and treatment of hazardous healthcare waste in Ghana. By utilizing advanced technology, recycling capabilities, and adhering to environmental and safety standards, the facility contributes to the achievement of national and international sustainability goals.

    Zambia President and Jospong Collaborates to Revolutionize Waste Sector

    Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong, the executive chair of the Jospong Group, along with Mrs. Adelaide Agyepong and other executives from the JGC, welcomed the Zambian president Hakainde Hichilema to Accra Compost and Recycling Plant (ACARP) in Accra during a working visit to Ghana. The president was accompanied by a group of ministers, as well as other members of the diplomatic corps and various other individuals.

    The Executive Chair in welcoming the Zambia President to the facility, assured him of the capability and readiness of the Group to support Zambia to successfully manage its waste.  Dr. Agyepong highlighted a significant characteristic of African waste, emphasizing that organic waste accounts for 61% of the total. He stressed the importance of converting this specific waste component into fertilizer, while the remaining waste comprises 14% plastics, 3% leather and glass, 2% textiles, 5% e-waste, and other miscellaneous items. Dr. Agyepong proudly stated that Jospong is actively engaged in these endeavors across Africa.

    President Hakainde Hichilema in addressing the leaders of the Jospong Group of Companies at the Accra Compost and Recycling Plant (ACARP), highlighted a shift in the focus of African leaders, from political discussions to the creation of opportunities for the African people. This, he emphasized, is the new approach being considered.

    “we don’t need you to persuade us to give you the Opportunity to operate: It Is our responsibility to build African businesses that will give jobs to our people” he assured.

    President Hichilema made it clear that there was no need for persuasion to grant the opportunity for the Jospong Group to operate. He firmly stated that it is the responsibility of African nations to foster the growth of businesses that generate employment for their own people.

    He provided an assurance to the JGC that he would promptly establish a committee within the Zambian Presidency. The committee’s purpose would be to collaborate closely with the Jospong team and commence work with utmost urgency. President Hichilema reiterated the massive mandate his election victory represented, emphasising the commitment to follow through on promises made to improve the lives of the people. He also stressed the importance of African citizens learning to choose leaders who can work towards the greater benefit of the population.

    About ACARP

    ACARP is an integrated waste processing and recycling company established to receive and process solid waste and produce organic manure for agronomic purposes in Ghana and the West African Sub-Region. The plant also addresses the problem of plastic waste through sorting, processing, and recycling of such waste. Other recovered materials such as textiles, packaging materials, and other highly combustible materials are used to manufacture high calorific burning material/fuels (refuse derived fuels) for specific industries that require such energy for their operations.

    Two subsidiaries of the Jospong Group, Kumasi Composting and Recycling Plant (KCARP) and Dredge Masters have received two prestigious awards at the National Brands Innovation Awards.

    KCARP was honoured with the prestigious Waste Management & Recycling Facility Excellence Award while Dredge Masters Limited on the other hand received the prestigious Community Impact Award of the year for its exceptional contribution to the dredging sector and the significant impact it has made in sanitizing the national water bodies.

    According to RAD Communications, the awarding institution, the two subsidiaries have showed exceptional innovation in their respective fields.

    The Awards ceremony took place at the plush Labadi Beach Hotel on Friday, May 26, 2023.

    “This award acknowledges Dredge Masters as a leading brand in the dredging sector and recognizes the profound influence of their work in preserving and reviving the country’s water resources,” an accompanying statement said.

    “The Jospong Group takes great pride and joy in receiving these esteemed awards and recognitions. The entire organization is filled with a sense of accomplishment and gratification, knowing that our hard work and dedication have been acknowledged and celebrated,” says Ms. Sophia Kudjordji, Chief Corporate Communications Officer in an interview after the awards ceremony.

    Reduce Rice importation – Jospong Executive Chairman to Government   

    The Executive Chairman of the Jospong Group of Companies (JGC), Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong, has called on the government of the Republic of Ghana to put in place measures to support local rice production.

    He said government can create demand by reducing importation of rice thereby helping local producers get good market for their produce 

    Dr. Agyepong was speaking at a two-day Ghana Food Security Conference under the theme “Enhancing Food Security: The role of Ghanaian Scientists” at Gomoa Fetteh in the Central Region on May 19, 2023.

    He encouraged the stakeholders particularly rice farmers and scientists not to despair because there are no adequate policies to support the initiative but rather be hopeful that when there is adequate rice production, the policies will change to favour local producers.

    Dr. Agyepong paid glowing tribute to Nigeria for taking the initiative to ban rice importation, He also lauded them for their ability to feed their teeming population.

    “In 2019, rice accounted for more than 14% of crops grown by Nigerian households,” Dr. Agyepong said.

    He said Nigeria after banning the importation of rice has made remarkable progress in rice production over the previous decade surpassing Egypt with a yearly production of 5.8 metric tonnes of rice.

    “Nigeria as a country is gradually becoming a rice super power,” Dr. Agyepong said adding, with the advent of Jospong’s support, we expect government to minimize rice importation or stop it entirely

    The Chief Executive Officer of the Asian African Consortium (AAC), A subsidiary of  Jospong Group, Mrs. Adelaide Araba Siaw Agyepong explained that  science, research and development have traditionally been the drivers of innovation and productivity, and are central to everything done in the world.

    According to her, if immediate measures to enhance food production are not undertaken, the cost of Africa’s yearly food import might rise from $50 billion to US$110 billion by 2030.

    “When there is food crisis, the poor suffer the most since they are unable to obtain food due to price hikes” she noted.

    She said this motivated the Jospong Group of Companies and the AAC in partnership with the CSIR to perceive the need to bridge Ghana’s food security gaps.

    In a speech read on his behalf by Apostle Alexander Kumi-Larbi, the Chairman of the Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Nyamekye said the theme for the conference which is “Enhancing Food Security: The Role of Ghanaian Scientists“ is crucial in the nation’s development discourse, especially at a time when the economy is distressed. 

    “While we await IMF assistance, it is critical that steps be taken locally to strengthen our country’s economic issues.”

    He said,  the African Journal of Food, Agriculture, Nutrition and Development, states that around 1.5 million Ghanaians experience food insecurity, with undernutrition, over nutrition, and micronutrient deficiencies persisting across all life stages. Poverty, climate change, rapid urbanisation and population expansion, and poor infrastructure have all been recognised as threats to food security in Ghana. 

    Again, he said, based on the 1996 World Food Summit, food security is defined as when all people, at all times, have physical and economic access to sufficient safe and nutritious food that meets their dietary needs and food preferences for an active and healthy life.

    “It is, therefore, appropriate to remind ourselves of the four main dimensions of food security which include physical food availability, economic and physical access to food, food utilization and a combination of all the three listed,” he said.

    The Director General of the Council for Industrial Research (CSIR) Prof. Paul Bosu said the Council has waited for a long time for such an opportunity to collaborate with industry to promote food security.

    He said the Council was ready to partner Jospong in rice production and other commodities.

    Apex COO commends Jospong Employees at the Launch of Jospong Employee Month

    The Chief Operating Officer of the Jospong Group of Companies, Dr. Samanjith Udumalaga has commended the employees of Jospong for their hard work and dedication which has pushed the Group forward.

    “Jospong is a place of learning and the people who join our Group are able to learn new things,” he said adding, “I wish you all the best 

    Dr. Udumalagala was speaking at the launch of the 2023 Jospong Employee Month,” an annual event held to celebrate the teeming employees of the conglomerate with over 60 companies. The 2023 event was themed, “Improving the lives of our people.” 

    Dr. Udumalagala urged all employees to take advantage of the learning environment of the Group to better themselves.

    The Guest Speaker for the event, Wing Commander Samuel J. A Allotey urged business leaders to respect their subordinates saying, “Don’t bring people’s spirits down, don’t slow down their hope, don’t make the problem bigger that it is.”

    Throwing more light on the values of the Jospong Group, Wing Commander Allotey urged business leaders to provide a helping hand to their employees, create a conducive atmosphere, and regulate themselves to avoid disciplinary issues.

    “Don’t wait for policies procedures and employee manual before you understand issues, regulate yourself in the workplace.” He said.

    Wing Commander Allotey who is also a Board member of the Technical Logistics Cluster  of the Group also warned of the workplace becoming a hub for polarization. “It is not about tribe or party, those are transient,” he said.

    He urged the leadership of the Group to motivate their teams and focus on people issues, saying people issues are key. “

    Wing Commander Allotey said usually companies look out for operations and finance reports leaving people issues unattended to. He said people issues should be part of the main reports in any management review meetings.

    In a speech read on his behalf, the Executive Chairman, Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong said the theme for this year’s employee month celebration which is “Improving the Lives of our People,” comes at a time when the Group is building the capacity of employees both home and abroad.

    “This is to help equip employees to play multiple roles or acquire new skills even in a technology advancing world of work which is changing greatly the way organisations must run in order to succeed,” he said  adding, “As a Group we also have the welfare of our people at heart and although we may not have been able to resolve all of our people issues across various subsidiaries, we want you to understand that we have your interests at heart and will do anything to help improve upon the lives of our employees and that of their families. “

    Dr. Agyepong also congratulated employees for also always bringing new ideas to the table especially at the Jospong annual leadership conferences.

    Cluster Chief Operating Officers including Mrs. Dora Yeboah Boateng of the Commercial and Allied Services(CAS) and Mr. Haider Said, Executive Director of the Processing Cluster of Environment and Sanitation Group gave solidarity messages.

    The Chief Human Capital of the Jospong Group Mrs. Akwelley Adoley Bulley-Kwaakyi paid glowing tribute to the employees. She announced three new benefit packages which included a Hire Purchase Programme with Electroland Company, Employee Assistance Programme(EAP) and a Mentorship programme.

    President unveils Joseph Siaw Agyepong Young Soldiers Block for the 37 Military Hospital

    In line with its mission to improve the lives of people, a leading conglomerate in Africa, Jospong Group of Companies has constructed a 300 bed facility for young soldiers at the 37 Military Hospital.

    The building which was commissioned by His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo on February1, 2023 is named “Joseph Siaw Agyepong Young Soldiers Block.”

    Commissioning the Block on Wednesday, the President stated that the 37 Military Hospital, usually, finds itself with a lot of young soldiers posted to the Unit to commence their basic training in medical care.

    According to the President, it is for this reason that the then Director General of Health Services at the hospital, Brigadier General Ralph Ametepe, conceived and started the project in 2016.

    “With the use of internally generated funds, the project stood at 40% complete in 2018 when it run out of funds and stalled.”

    “It is good to note that successive Directors at the Hospital continued the project, albeit at a slow pace, until the project was revived in 2021 by the current Chief of Defence Staff,” he said.

    “I am told that the Chief of Defence Staff, Vice Admiral Seth Amoama, in 2021, made an appeal to the Jospong Group of Companies to assist with the completion of this block, a request which was duly heard and answered,” the President said.

    The President also paid glowing tribute to Jospong Group of Companies for its efforts saying: “I am told Jospong Group of Companies agreed to complete the project as a Corporate Social Responsibility at no cost to the Ghana Armed Forces. Jospong, well done, ayekoo!!”

    For that reason, he stated that the edifice is named the “Joseph Siaw Agyepong Young Soldiers Block, “after the Executive Chairman and Founder of the Jospong Group of Companies, Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong.

    According to the President, the project formed part of the Phase 1 and 2 of the Barracks Regeneration and the Military Housing Projects in 2020 and 2021 respectively all of which are aimed at providing decent accommodation for the military.

    The Defense Minister, Hon. Dominic Nitiwul, said one of the major challenges facing GAF was accommodation, and therefore appealed for assistance.

    Earlier, in a brief remark, the Executive Chairman of the JGC, Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong, expressed his profound gratitude to the Military High Command for the opportunity to support a worthy cause.

    He indicated that the Group sees the gesture as an opportunity to contribute their quota through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to an institution as important as the Ghana Army.

    He said Jospong Group supports institutions whose mission resonates with the corporate mission of JGC which is to improve lives people in the society.

    According to Dr. Siaw Agyepong, his organization has enjoyed a good collaboration with the Armed Forces as their Senior Executives, Young Executives, drivers and operatives of Ecozoil have benefitted from the rich expertise from various outlets of the Ghana Armed Forces.

    “This is indeed my personal admiration for the military for the mark of discipline, professionalism and excellence”, he underscored.

    “I am inspired by what I am witnessing here today and this has further reinforced the company’s resolve to continue to contribute our widow’s might to the 37 Military Hospital in other areas of interest which they wish to embark on,” Dr Siaw Agyepong said.

    Also present at the event were the Military High Command, The Interior Minister, Mr Ambrose Dery, Hon Kennedy Agyepong, Directors from the Ministry of Defense and executives of the Jospong Group.

    The construction was undertaken by Georotche a subsidiary of FEDEMS Group.

    The Integrated Recycling and Compost Plants (IRECOPs) project that was launched with sod-cutting ceremonies across the 16 regions of the country in 2020, has reached far advanced stages of completion with the first of it all being commissioned by the president, H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on the 24th August, 2022.

    In a grand event at the IRECOP site in Damongo, the President, in the company of the Savannah Regional Minister – Hon. Saeed Muhazu Jibril, Member of parliament for the Damango Constituency – Hon. Samuel Abu Jinapor, Minister for Information – Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Minister for Local Government – Dan Kwaku Botwe, Minister for Roads and Highways – Hon. Kwasi Amoako-Attah and some government officials graced the occasion to rally their support to this landmark achievement in the Savannah Region and the Country. Seated graciously in the midst of the people of Damongo was the Vice President of the Savannah House of Chiefs – Buipewura Abdullai Jinapor, and 32 other paramount Chiefs.

    The event was kick started by a warm welcome address by the Savanah Regional Minister, iterating the salience of the completion of the project and its tremendous foreseeable benefits to the people of Damongo and surrounding communities. He then thanked the president for showing endless support to the Savanah Region and extended profound gratitude again for the creation of the new regions which includes the Savanah Region, and said that this will foster speedy development and build a strong foundation for sustainable development in the regions and country. “Now Savannah has a place, respect and recognition. And for that, the people are very grateful.” 

    Followed by a message from the Yagbonwura – President of the Savannah Regional House of Chiefs, he complimented the president on delivering on his promise to deliver a region to the people of the Gonja Kingdom, which has resulted in the establishment of other structures and facilities for his people. He then thanked the executive chairman of the Jospong Group of Companies for establishing the integrated recycling and compost plant in the region and assured that the people in the region will assist in providing raw materials to the plant and also develop maintenance culture to protect the facility. 

    Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong spoke right after and in his speech, recalled the task received by him and the Jospong Group of Companies to establish a composting plant, which has been delivered after just a couple of years. Highlighting the superb works that has been done in these years. He stated that, the global crisis highlights the president’s vision and foresight of investing into a compost fertilizer facility, saying: “Global events of today points to your visionary leadership, when you supported the establishment of a compost plant, which had the capacity to produce fertilizer, little did we know that there will be a Russia-Ukrainian war. As we all know, the war has had serious consequences on fertilizer imports. The capacity to forsee problems and respond to them with the boldness of vision is the mark of a good leader like President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.”  

    The president has established 38 waste treatment plants in the areas of solid, liquid and medical waste across the 16 regions of the country which will collect, treat and process municipal waste into usable products.”

    He also reiterated the importance of the plant to the people as it will create several job opportunities, 200 direct jobs and 300 indirect jobs for people that will haul the waste to the treatment site. 

    He expressed profound gratitude to the President, he Hon. Minister for Sanitation and Waste Management – Cecilia Abena Dapah, Parliamentary Select Committee on Environment and Local Government, Engineers and Contractors, Chiefs and the people of Damongo for making this construction process a great success. 

    Speaking at the ceremony, the President indicated that waste management issues has been a perennial problem the country faces. “It has been a perennial problem for our country. But, fortunately, for me, in my time, I came across a man who was prepared to partner with government to deal with the question of waste disposal in our country. And it has been one of the highlights of my government – the partnership that the government has made with the Jospong Group of Companies, headed by its Executive Chairman, Joseph Siaw Agyepong,” he said.

    In thanking Joseph Siaw Agyepong for his contribution “to the development of our country,” President Akufo-Addo noted that “any serious businessman that has a programme for development in his sector, and is seeking the partnership and assistance of government, this Government, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s Government, will give him that support and partnership for us to develop the country together.” 

    This highlights the President and this government’s unflinching support to the private sector development.

    Dredge Masters MD Inducted Into Corporate Ghana Hall of Fame.

    The Managing Director (MD) of Dredge Masters Limited (DML), Captain Ansar Ahmed Khan, has been inducted into the Corporate Ghana Hall of Fame Awards 2022 at the plush Movenpick Ambassador Hotel, Accra.

    He was presented with a plaque in recognition of his induction into the Corporate Ghana Hall of Fame.

    The induction of the MD of DML into the Hall Fame is in recognition of his significant contribution to especially Ghana’s environmental sanitation space.

    The awards which were organised by The Business Executive on Friday, March 4, 2022, and it was graced by top CEOs, chairmen and chairpersons.

    The Corporate Ghana Hall of Fame is a flagship forum of top-tier executives conceptualised as a grouping of selected current and former chairmen and chairpersons, and overall top CEOs in Ghana’s business sectors who individually and collectively contribute to the growth of corporate Ghana.

    Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the ceremony, Captain Khan thanked the organisers for the honour done him, and edicated the award to his family, Jospong Group of Companies (JGC) and his staff members.

    The elated MD of DML used the occasion to express appreciation to JGC for what he described as their “immense support” to the dredge society.

    Earlier, in a welcome address, the Chairman of Corporate Ghana Hall of Fame, Mr. Kwasi Abeasi, who was a former Board Chairman of Ghana Investment Promotion Council (GIPC), said the Corporate Ghana Hall of Fame Awards recognises and celebrates the professional accomplishments of outstanding chairmen, chairpersons and distinguished CEOs of the corporate community.

    Other inductees
    Among prominent personalities who were also inducted into the Corporate Ghana Hall of Fame were the current Chairman of HSOP, Dr. Derick Amoateng; President of Ghana Employers Association, Daniel Acheampong; Board Chairman of Norpalm Ghana Limited, Dr. Kwwme Sarpong, and; founder of Asanka University College of Design and Technology, Kwabena Asante Asare.

    The rest were the CEO of DHL Global Forwarding West Africa and Country Head for Ghana, Serigne Ndanck Mbaye; Chairman of Ruma Fertility and Specialist Hospital, Dr. Rudolf Kantum Adageba; General Manager of Ridge Royal Hotel, Mr. Samuel Obiri Oduman; Commissioner of Insurance, Justice Ofori, the reigning CEO of the year 2021 of the Ghana Leadership Awards, who is also the CEO of Envaserv Research Consult Dr. Emmanuel Lamptey; Managing Director and Chairman of MINECON Resources and Services Limited, Daniel Kenneth Bansah, and; Manager of Adjafash Company Ltd., Prince Williams.
